As many of you know, I have been trying to live a more sustainable lifestyle for about a year and a half now and it's been quite the journey. One of the things I've always noticed living in Arkansas is that soooo many sustainable and natural products are not readily available in-store and I have to buy them online. That is why when Spring and Vine at Target reached out for me to try their shampoo bar, I was THRILLED.

Why am I so excited about this new shampoo bar? Since it's sold at Target, it's accessible to so many people. Not only are they easy to find, but they're also less than $10! Most shampoo bars that I've found are $15, so I was amazed by the price.

Before we even get started, let me answer the most common question:

Are shampoo bars easy to use?

For those who have never tried a shampoo bar and are a little nervous about it, I promise they're simple to use! I get my hair completely wet, then stroke the bar on my head 3 times (I know that's a random number, it's just my system). After I do that, I lather a little bit more in my hands. It lathers just as well as liquid shampoo and smells so good. After that, it's the same as using liquid shampoo!

The bar is so soothing to my hair that I don't even use conditioner (which is something I use to use every day so this is really saying something). Let me also mention that they last longer than liquid shampoo since the bars are concentrated soap!

Why Shampoo Bars Are Better for the Planet

The plastic pollution problem is devastating to me, and I'm always looking for ways to reduce my plastic use. One aspect of the plastic problem is our shampoo bottles. 552 MILLION shampoo bottles end up in landfills every single year. Once I heard this statistic, I knew it was time to reduce my plastic in the shower. I've tried several shampoo bars and other natural shampoos, but 100% of them had to be bought online since Arkansas has very few options for natural products. It's so exciting for me to be able to use a bar that I can simply pick up in my town.

The Spring and Vine shampoo bar comes in a compostable/recyclable cardboard box. There is a plastic lining around the shampoo bar, but all in all this shampoo bar uses 95% less plastic than shampoo bottles. On top of that, it's toxin-free, cruelty-free, and vegan.

How does the bar work for me?

I tried all of them and my favorite by is the scalp soothing bar! In the winter, my scalp gets extremely dry. a couple of months ago I was using a natural shampoo but ultimately had to switch to Head and Shoulders because of my scalp. Not only did I have horrible dandruff, my scalp felt so uncomfortable most of the time because of how dry it was. My scalp would even bleed because of how dry it would get. When I saw the scalp soothing bar, my eyes didn't even light up because I didn't think it would work. To my surprise, When I tried it out my head felt better even with the first use. Now, over time my dandruff is almost completely gone, I don't scratch my head anymore, and the shampoo even makes my hair look good. I'm so thankful to have found a shampoo bar that not only aligns with my sustainable and ethical values, but also helped cure my scalp problems.
